What circumstances or people helped shape you in your career?
I am a lifelong reader, and I trace my love of learning to a formative moment in Canton, Mississippi, when my second-grade teacher, Miss Thompson, noticed my passion for books and took the time to arrange something simple but profound: a trip to the library to get my first library card.
That card opened a window to the world, allowing me to explore people, places, and ideas far beyond my small hometown. Teachers like Miss Thompson, who pay close attention and go out of their way to nurture what they see in a child, have shaped who I am, both as a person and as an educator. Those early experiences taught me that when a teacher takes the time to truly understand a student’s interests and opens a door for them, the impact can last a lifetime. It is a lesson I have carried with me throughout my own career in the classroom and beyond, and it continues to inform how I think about the educators, students, and the communities we serve.
What’s your favorite thing about living in the Huntsville/Madison County area?
What I love most about living in the Huntsville–Madison County area is the extraordinary generosity of the community and the genuine spirit of connection that defines this region. It is a place where people readily come together—across professions, backgrounds, and interests—to support meaningful causes and engage in conversations that strengthen our shared future.
I also appreciate the remarkable diversity of opportunities available here. Whether it’s exploring new dining experiences, accessing exceptional educational resources, or enjoying a wide array of entertainment options, this community offers something for everyone. Huntsville–Madison County is vibrant, welcoming, and endlessly engaging, and I am grateful to call it home.
What civic organizations or nonprofits have you been involved with, and why have those been important to you?
Being a member of the Huntsville Rotary Club has been deeply important to me because it connects me to a community of leaders who are committed to service, integrity, and meaningful impact. Rotary brings together individuals from diverse professions and backgrounds who share a common purpose: to make our community—and our world—better.
Through Rotary, I’ve had the opportunity to contribute to initiatives that strengthen Huntsville and Madison County, while also forming genuine relationships with people who inspire me through their dedication and generosity. The club’s commitment to “Service Above Self” aligns with my own values, reminding me that service is not just an act, but a way of life.
Rotary has given me a place to both give and grow. It provides a platform to support important causes, engage with thoughtful leaders, and stay connected to the pulse of our community. My membership has enriched my life personally and professionally, and I am grateful to be part of such a respected and service focused organization.
