Alison Corey

Senior Architect/Owner, Chapman Sisson Architects

Alison Corey spent her childhood living in a suburb of Cincinnati, Ohio and went to Ball State University where she received her Bachelor’s and Master of Architecture. Upon graduation in 2009, she relocated to Huntsville to start her professional career.

As a child, Alison knew she wanted to be an architect, and would sketch different floor plans for houses on graph paper and browse through floor plan magazines. “The way space is experienced and the sequence that one travels through space has always intrigued me.”

Alison married husband Filip Corey in 2011 and they have two children together, a six-year-old son and a two-year-old daughter as well as three fur babies.

What circumstances or people helped shape you in your career?

Being motivated to be exposed to as much as possible has allowed me to learn from coworkers and clients. Sometimes a stressful or uncomfortable situation or task seems overwhelming, but it an incredible opportunity for growth.

What do you love most about your job?

The opportunity to serve others and witness how our work impacts our community. The ability to communicate a design through drawings and see it come to life is an incredibly rewarding experience.

What’s your favorite thing about living in the Huntsville/Madison County area?

Huntsville has changed so much since moving here in 2009. There is so much to do and see. Even with the population growing, the commute time is very reasonable, and the city is clean.  I love the “small town feel” of Huntsville where there are so many connections among people in the community.

What awards, accolades or accomplishments are you proudest of?

The recognition that I’m the proudest of is the invitation to become a shareholder at Chapman Sisson in 2017.

What is your mission statement or your company’s mission statement?

Chapman Sisson Architects is led by faith-based principles. Our mission is to serve our clients through outstanding architecture and quality design work. Our goal is to be the best at what we do, provide exceptional customer service, and build lasting relationships.

How has the business community changed for women since you began your career?

I have been incredibly blessed to work at a company where I have always felt like I was treated equally as a woman.  Currently, our office is half female, and the ownership is 40% female. In college, we were prepared that the construction industry may not treat women fairly, but I have never experienced anything negative. Unfortunately, I know some of my peers have not had the same experience, though I believe women infiltrating many fields in the work force is shifting the paradigm and bringing equality much further.

Do you have a favorite quote about powerful or strong women you’d like to share?

“We rise by lifting others.”
