When you were little, what did you dream of being when you grew up?

As I grew, my dreams changed. In elementary school, I wanted to a teacher, in middle school a lawyer, in high school a photographer, then psychologist.  Working in private banking may seem like a different path, but it requires me to maintain a strong eye for detail, understand my clients’ needs and help guide decisions for their best interests.  Many of my early interests play a role in my career.

What circumstances/people helped shape you in your career?

Many circumstances and experiences have shaped who I am today. The remarkable ones have encouraged and supported me. The tough ones have stretched, developed, and strengthened me.  I’ve also been blessed by God by the placement of wonderful mentors in my path.  I am especially grateful for leaders in the banking industry like Beth Richardson, Evans Quinlivan, Tim Singleton, David Mathis, Taron Thorpe, as well as leaders across other industries like Mary Lynne Wright and Bobby Bradley, among many others.  Each has helped me grow and taught me key lessons that helped me learn to be comfortable being uncomfortable, be coachable, and never settle for less.

What do you love most about your job?

Banking can be very personal.  Celebrating milestones with the families who bank with us, watching their children grow, their businesses develop and thrive has been very rewarding.  I’ve been allowed to truly make a positive difference in their lives and for their business. I love serving as a partner to help achieve all their life’s goals, being there for the big moments, supporting and guiding through the struggles and celebrating the achievements!

What differentiates you from your peers or competitors?

Many banks claim to offer personal service, and a select few offer private banking. Bank Independent is redefining private banking and setting a new standard in the industry.  We have been helping our neighbors grow and preserve their wealth since 1947. The private banking business group is focused on curating products customized to address clients’ entire financial goals.

What’s your favorite thing about living in the Huntsville/Madison County area?

We are an eclectic community that continues to push and elevate the meaning of “a great place to work, live, and play.” We encourage creativity and promote diversity. Celebrating our uniqueness is one of the many strengths what will continue to make Huntsville/Madison County a highly sought-after city.

What civic organizations or nonprofits have you been involved with, and why have those been important to you?

Huntsville Museum of Art Women’s Guild, Huntsville Botanical Garden, WEDC, Madison Chamber of Commerce, American Heart Association, March of Dimes, Women in Defense, Huntsville Hospital Development Council, Leadership Greater Huntsville….can I name them all?  Each are different but connect on a personal level.  From circumstances like my father-in-law passing with heart disease, to me having a high-risk pregnancy, to promoting the development of women as leaders, and everything in between. They’re all important because paying it forward, supporting those who are less fortunate and simply sharing your time and talents with others all speak to my personal values.

What awards, accolades or accomplishments are you proudest of?

First and always, I am most proud of my family; my husband of 19 years, Matt, our boys, Ian, Aidan, and our daughter of Ellisyn.  But I have been honored by the Madison Chamber of Commerce Excellence in Leadership and Service Award and the 256 Magazine 40 Under 40. And, I have had the privilege of developing and launching a successful Private Banking division for Bank Independent!

How has the business community changed for women since you began your career?

Our community continues to focus on the development, success, and promotion of women. While we still have a lot we can improve upon, we have made incredible strides. We enjoy a presence of more women CEO’s than ever before, and more organizations created just to support women in their business journey. I am pleased to see so much collaboration with women supporting women.

Do you have a favorite quote about powerful or strong women you’d like to share?

Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of somebody else. – Judy Garland
